Engagement of Law Clerk-cum-Research Associates on Short-Term Contractual Assignment

The Supreme Court of India invites online applications for the engagement of approximately 90 Law Clerk-cum-Research Associates on a purely contractual basis for the 2025-2026 term. The selected candidates will receive a consolidated remuneration of ₹80,000 per month.

Key Points:

  • This is a full-time contractual assignment and does not guarantee regular appointment or continuation in service.
  • The engagement may be terminated at any time by the Registry with prior notice.
  • Law Clerks cannot practice as Advocates in any court during their tenure.

Eligibility Criteria

Essential Qualifications:

  1. Law Graduate (Bachelor’s Degree in Law, including Integrated Law courses) from an institution recognized by the Bar Council of India for enrolment as an Advocate.
  2. Candidates in the final year (5th year of 5-year integrated law course OR 3rd year of 3-year law course) can apply, but they must provide proof of obtaining their degree before joining.
  3. Candidates must possess research and analytical skills, writing abilities, and computer proficiency, including knowledge of legal research platforms like e-SCR, Manupatra, SCC Online, LexisNexis, and Westlaw.

Age Limit:

  • Candidates must be between 20 and 32 years as of 07-02-2025.

Selection Process

The selection will be conducted in three phases:

  1. Part I: Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQs) – Tests legal knowledge and comprehension skills.
  2. Part II: Subjective Written Examination – Tests writing and analytical skills.
  3. Part III: Interview.

Exam Details

  • Exam Date: 09-03-2025
  • Mode:
    • Part I: Online
    • Part II: Computer-based question paper, but answers to be written in pen-paper mode
  • Exam Centers: 23 cities across India, including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata, Lucknow, Patna, and others.

Answer Key & Objections:

  • The Model Answer Key will be uploaded on 10-03-2025 at 12:00 Noon.
  • Candidates can raise objections (if any) until 11:59 PM on 11-03-2025, by paying ₹100 per question (refundable if the objection is valid).

  • Last Date to Apply: 07-02-2025 (11:55 PM)
  • Application Fee: ₹500/- (plus bank charges, if applicable). Payment must be made online via UCO Bank Payment Gateway.

  • No changes can be made to the application after submission.
  • Multiple applications will result in the latest submission being considered.
  • Admit cards do not guarantee selection.
  • The Registry reserves the right to modify the selection process.
  • Legal disputes, if any, will be under Delhi jurisdiction.

Important Note:

  • Selected candidates must be available for work beyond regular hours and on holidays when required.
  • No TA/DA will be provided for appearing in the written test.
